Crossing the Mainframe
A winter walk through Finsbury ending at the City Arts and Music Project
Go to Finsbury Avenue Square and make your way across.
Sit and watch the shadowy dance of commuters crossing the mainframe. Summon the spirit of Jeff Bridges as you engage in mortal combat with the nearest web programmer. Escape Finsbury Avenue Square for…
…Finsbury Square, or ‘the suburbs’. Where has Tron gone? The humans are joining with the humans to combat the humans. There’s a whiff of something in the air, a call and response, a timetable of talks, a beanbag and bookshelf.
A city within the City within a city. Cross City Road to…
…soak up the stillness of Bunhill behind bars. The street lights bathe the lichened tombs and leafy ground in eerie sepia. If you look in long enough, you feel drawn into a picture-book darkness.
Tip your hat in Defoe’s direction…
…cross the road again to Wesley’s Chapel. Take off your shoes (this is holy ground)…
…and let the cold cobbles massage your toes. Consider Wesley’s brave words.
Totter up to the intricately engraved windows, catch a glimpse of the perpetual light.
Then slope off to CAMP (City Art and Music Project) and drink, and be warm. Probably put yours shoes back on.
